Rave Tapes - Sub Pop pre-order (and likely future ep)

The Sub Pop pre-order for Mogwai's 'Rave Tapes' box set is up:
http://www.subpop.com/releases/mogwai/full_lengths/rave_tape_deluxe_box_set

That's a pretty-looking thing.

The Sub Pop boxset has its own catalogue number [SP1079] and the write-up states "The deluxe edition box set will be housed in a hardcover box case featuring unique-to-this-package artwork, and will be limited to only 500 copies. Which is to say, it’s not going to last long!"

And more from Stuart on the forum:
We have some more songs which we'll be releasing as an ep at some point. There aren't any plans for singles from the album at the moment though that could change if we get any great remixes.

Rave Tapes bonus 7" - update

Stuart has confirmed via the forum that the 'Rave Tapes' boxset 7", the Sub Pop bonus 7" and the Rock Action indies-only bonus 7" all contain one song only - 'Tell Everybody That I Love Them '.

The boxset 7" will have an etched b-side, unlike the other two pressings.

Barry interviewed on Rave Tapes

http://echoesanddust.com/2013/11/interview-barry-burns-of-mogwai/

Well worth reading, some interesting comment on the new album.

"I have a feeling that 7 straight weeks in the USA is really going to take its toll on us" - the currently-announced North American tour runs for five weeks, which suggests a substantial extension is yet to be announced.

'Rave Tapes' format tracklisting update

Boxset tracklists:
Heavy pressed die cut LP/CD/cassette

Heard About You Last Night
Simon Ferocious
Remurdered
Hexon Bogon
Repelish
Master Card
Deesh
Blues Hour
No Medicine For Regret
The Lord Is Out Of Control

plus:
Exclusive heavy pressed 12" coloured vinyl (pink):
A - Bad Magician 3 (3:32)
B - Die 1 Dislike! (5:26)

1 sided heavy pressed etched 7"
A - Tell Everybody That I Love Them (4:28)

Printed download card for high quality download of all tracks contained in box

============================================

The Sub Pop pre-order states "You’ll also receive a bonus 7" with two extra songs with your pre-order of Rave Tapes", so this is a different 7" to that included in the boxset.
It's not currently clear whether the Sub Pop bonus 7" has the same tracklist as the 7" included with the UK/European indies-only vinyl.

Update - Stuart has confirmed that the bonus 7" will have the same tracklist across all formats.

To muddy the water still further, the Japanese CD [Hostess Entertainment HSE-30324] will have bonus tracks - some pre-orders suggest two additional tracks. Again, it's not yet known whether these bonus tracks are duplicated in the boxset or other formats.

This could get very, very expensive....

Dingle - 6th to 8th December 2013

From http://dingle2013.othervoices.ie/:
Other Voices Series 12

December 6th, 7th and 8th 2013 will see Other Voices head to Dingle for it’s 12th year. The recording of the world-renowned music television event will take place in St. James’ Church, Dingle.

In keeping with a musical tradition nurtured in Dingle over eleven years, Other Voices will showcase the most influential voices in contemporary music – established artists and bands from across the globe performing alongside the ever burgeoning wave of emerging talent. Old friends will return and new friendships will be forged. Some of those returning to the fold will be DAVID GRAY, and IMRO Other Room alum LISA O’NEILL will be joining us on the main stage. We are also excited to be joined by Scottish post-rockers, MOGWAI. The full line-up for Other Voices will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Once again Other Voices will be providing a TV and online platform for new and emerging acts in the IMRO Other Room. Anyone who wishes to apply for a slot to perfrom the IMRO Other Room can do so by visting the Open Call section on www.othervoices.ie.

Other Voices Dingle will again feature the hugely popular Other Voices Music Trail, with a stellar line-up of musical offerings in a number of venues across the weekend. All Other Voices Music Trail events are free and will take place before and after the live gigs in St. James’. Familiar names will perform alongside emerging Irish artists and no doubt there will be a few very special guests along the way! This year also sees the return of Banter, a salon style series of discussion and debate with Irish Times Music Journalist, Jim Carroll (www.thisisbanter.com).

As always, tickets for the main Church recordings will be very limited but don’t let that put you off coming down to Dingle for the weekend. You will not be disappointed by the huge range of other gigs, talks and festivities we have in store for Other Voices 12. Also, for those who don’t make it into the church, the live action will be streamed in bars around the town as well as online.

The capacity for Mogwai's show is 80. Date tbc. All tickets are given away. Links to ticket sources will be posted on http://dingle2013.othervoices.ie/

Thanks Helen and Fergus

What Are They Doing In Heaven Today promo

This turned up on ebay at the end of last week - promo CD, seemingly for a proposed physical and digital single release of the Les Revenants track 'What Are They Doing In Heaven?' earlier this year.

MOGWAI –‘WHAT ARE THEY DOING IN HEAVEN TODAY?’ SINGLE
PHYSICAL RELEASE: 25/02, DIGITAL RELEASE: 24/02

Tracklisting:
1. What Are They Doing In Heaven Today?
2. Wizard Motor

Mogwai releases new single What Are They Doing In Heaven Today? through Rock Action Records. Mogwai are Stuart Braithwaite, Dominic Aitchison, Martin Bullock, John Cummings and Barry Burns, formed in Glasgow in 1995. New track What Are You Doing In Heaven Today? is a cover version of a Washington Phillips song by Braithwaite and is released with b-side Wizard Motor. Both tracks are taken from the band’s newest project, the soundtrack of the French TV series Les Revenants. The series is adapted from the eponymously titled, Robin Campillo-directed 2004 film, and the series unfolds in an isolated French mountain town where the locals are troubled after children who were tragically killed in a bus crash appear to come back to life, unaware that they’d died. The soundtrack to Les Revenant is set for release on 25/02.

Update - seem the seller has a ready supply, it's already been relisted

Mogwai vs Kanye West

(via Consequence Of Sound)
Kanye West is (for those just emerging from under their rocks) one of the most vocal and progressive talents in modern rap. Mogwai is a Scottish-based quintet known for their lengthy, heavily distorted brand of instrumental post-rock. Now, those two dichotomous worlds come together at last thanks to a new mash-up from Chicago production duo The Hood Internet (who know a thing or two about the ways of the mash-up.)

“Tu Ne Peux Rien Me Dire” pairs West’s “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” vocals with an unnamed Mogwai piano-and-drum piece. The resulting track is like a musical Reese’s cup, with West’s boisterous rhymes given a sheen of darkness while the brooding instrumentation sounds more playful underneath West’s rampant charisma.

Mogwai's tracks is The Huts (thanks einzack)
