Mogcast #6

http://radiomagnetic.com/main-features/mogcast-6-featuring-aidan-moffat/

This month Martin is joined by an old friend of Mogwai and the Rock Action clan, Aidan Moffat. Aidan will preview some of his new tracks as well as inform us of his immediate musical plans.

There will also be two exclusive Rock Action songs from the land of the rising sun. Music from MIA, Warsaw, Plank!, Wooden Shjips and from long term RM fave, Aidan Moffat himself. Enjoy!

Thanks Sean.

Whilst news of Mogwai shows is always welcome, it's disappointing to see so little imagination/variety/call it what you will in Mogwai's UK touring itineraries over the last five years.
[NB - these comments were made when it appeared that that the UK tour would consist only of the three dates listed above, and are unreservedly withdrawn in the light of the seven further dates confirmed subsequently - Rob]

Unless they've radically altered the interior during the recent refurbishment, Birmingham Institute is markedly smaller than the other two venues and should be first choice for those wanting to avoid the enormo-barns.

UK tour announcement this week

Am I hearing things, or did Stuart just say that Mogwai are announcing a UK tour later this week? Great news if so, let's hope it's not just three enormo-shows. Four and a half years since the last UK tour, after all.

Live mp3 Download Of The Week #4

SONG OF THE WEEK:
FOLK DEATH 95
Live at Tavastia, Helsinki
July 6th 2006

This process seems to be working now. I've asked for the folks organising this to provide me with some code for the second mp3, 'Friend Of The Night', as this seems to have been missed by many people.

'The Singing Mountain' sings on 11th September

Following our previous post on Mogwai's recent/forthcoming collaboration with Douglas Gordon, Dimi from thepostrock.de got in touch yesterday to pass on the news that 'The Singing Mountain' will make its debut on 11th September.

A reminder, for those who missed the first post:

EMSCHERKUNST.2010, the biggest art project of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010, includes a work entitled 'Monument For A Forgotten Future" by Olaf Nicolai and Douglas Gordon with Mogwai

Further info here and here. The second of these links includes mention of 'The Singing Mountain', a new Mogwai track recorded in April 2010 for the project and due to receive a full release at the end of the project - maybe even this year?

'Batcat' in Dead Space 2 trailer

This will probably mean a lot more to others than it does to me.
Thanks to Katrien for posting this on the forum.

Live mp3 Download Of The Week #3

SONG OF THE WEEK:
HELICON 1
Live at Gothic Theatre, Denver
May 3rd 2006

The process of circulating these things seems glitchy at best, a fair number of folks still complaining that they're getting the first mp3 (Secret Pint) again.

Given that the company who are processing these free mp3s are the same company who are supposed to be delivering all the pre-ordered download packages for 'Special Moves' in five weeks time, it's to be hoped that someone somewhere is giving them a hefty kick in the backside.

Update: a number of people are reporting that the only reliable way of getting these mp3s is to use a different email address each week. Or, presumably, to unsubscribe from the mailing list and then resubscribe?

Update from Stuart: "That's the live track problem fixed now. Let me know if you hear of any more problems."

It does seem to be working now.

Burning online screening - 27th July

Image taken from causeequalstime.com

The online screening takes place on 27th July via ustream at 12pm (PST), 3pm (EST), 8pm (GMT)

Hosted by Stuart Braithwaite and Vincent Moon, and with a Q&A session directly after the screening.

Presumably the video will be easy enough to embed, in which case I'll hopefully host it here (unless I need to be invited to do so, or some such thing)

Live mp3 download of the week #2

SONG OF THE WEEK:
FRIEND OF THE NIGHT
Live at Hammersmith Apollo, London
October 24, 2008

Update: this doesn't appear to be working at the moment. Apparently last week's 'Secret Pint' mp3 is all that's available. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon.
