Mogwai in Malaysia documentary

In its 'Weekend Watch' feature, Malaysia's New Straits Times newspaper mentions a TV documentary, to be broadcast this weekend, about Mogwai's first visit to the country in January.

8TV airs a new programme showcasing Mogwai, a rock band originating from Glasgow, Scotland.

Mogwai Wuz Hear is a half-hour rock-documentary on an all-access look at the band’s first ever trip to Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with its 2009 Asian Tour.
It airs on Sunday at 11pm.

Looks like 8TV broadcasts and archives online. If anyone can find a schedule for Sunday, let me know - presumably the Mogwai documentary is part of a music series as I couldn't find it mentioned on the website.

Pedal-ing for Malawi

The Malawi Education Project will be holding a music themed ‘Silent Auction’ at The Croft, Bristol on Wednesday 27th May to raise us some much needed funds. Everyone who comes will be given their own secret number, which they then use to bid on the prizes dotted around the venue. Keep an eye on the prizes you’re interested in, mind. Otherwise someone might out bid you, and if they have, out bid them back, and hard at it.

Some of the prizes on offer here are really rather special in our humble opinion… And do remember inside of your brain that many of them can be bought at a steal, and some are simply not available to buy anywhere else EVER, so please come down and bring as many of your friends as possible, and get bidding after you have drunk enough alcohol to spend more money than you know you can really afford to, but for a good cause. Mogwai have donated a signed Electro-Harmonix 'Mogwai Big Muff Pi' pedal for the auction. Only 100 of these were made, as promo items for the 'Rock Action' album in 2001.

The latest Mogwai album ‘Hawk is Howling’ cements their status as a classic band (though they would laugh in your face if you said that, thus the genius of Mogwai, punk rock influenced by Stockhausen). But it is true. Mogwai is rock’n'roll magic. The favoured adjective when describing Mogwai is “cinematic”. Each track projects imaginary films into your head. And Hawk is Howling red beams some heavy Philip K Dick home movies into your head. Ace.

ATP film - UK premiere 24th June

Warp X is pleased to announce the UK premiere of All Tomorrow’s Parties at the Edinburgh International Film Festival screening on 24th and 25th June. All Tomorrow’s Parties is a kaleidoscopic journey into the parallel musical universe of the cult music festival of the same name.

All Tomorrow’s Parties is a DIY concert film featuring performances from an eclectic mix artists including: Battles, Sonic Youth, Belle And Sebastian, Patti Smith, Animal Collective, Grinderman, Iggy and the Stooges, Portishead, Mogwai, Slint, Grizzly Bear, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Gossip, Daniel Johnston and The Boredoms.

The film is a semi-found bricolage made from Super8, camcorder and mobile phone footage contributed by over two hundred filmmakers, fans and musicians over the festival’s recent history, with key contributions from co-director Jonathan Caouette (Tarnation) and cinematographer Vincent Moon (The Take Away Shows, Arcade Fire).

Future Cinema, in association with Warp Films, ATP & Synergy, will present the premiere of All Tomorrows Parties as part of a unique live cinema event at the Edinburgh International Film Festival on June 24th. The film will be screened and brought to life in an immersive and 360 degree musical experience, including live performances from very special surprise guests. A straight cinema screening will also take place in Edinburgh on the following day.

Field Day comments inaccurate

Stuart has confirmed that Field Day is Mogwai's only English festival appearance in 2009, but not necessarily Mogwai's only English show in 2009.

FD is our only English festival but we haven't even thought about our touring plans for the rest of the year. If the person who put that post up works for the festival then i sincerely hope he checked his facts out as i for one do not like being told what my band is doing by strangers. SB

So there at least some hope of a UK tour this year.

Sadly inevitable, let's hope it's not true

According to a post on the Drowned In Sound forum, Field Day Festival (London, 1st August) will be Mogwai's only English show in 2009.

If you're as pissed off about this as I am, please take the time to post a comment below. Seems very odd that The Hawk Is Howling doesn't merit a UK tour, and that there's been no UK tour since March 2006.

Call for Brooklyn audience recordings

Guys, we are reasonably urgently looking for good audience recordings of the 3 Brooklyn shows. We need to hear the shows to decide which songs to mix for the dvd/cd and mixing every song from all 3 nights would take ages.

Update: Did anyone tape on Monday (27th)? The other two shows have been sourced.

The plan is to do a dvd/cd and probably an lp too. the tracklisting will almost definitely be different as the fim makers were pretty specific about what songs they wanted to use and i doubt we'd have the same choices.
