Mogwai back in Australia in November?

*Unconfirmed at this stage*

Apparently Stuart said Mogwai would be back in Australia in November from the stage at Splendour In The Grass on Friday.

Rumour has it they're playing the touring Harvest Festival
http://www.harvestfestival.com.au/

Saturday November 12 - Harvest Presents “The Gathering”, Melbourne, Werribee Park
Sunday November 13 - Harvest, Sydney, Parramatta Park
Saturday November 19 - Harvest, Brisbane, Botanical Gardens

This ties in perfectly with Mogwai's announced autumn schedule, and hopefully there will be some side shows between the Sydney and Brisbane dates - maybe even a visit to New Zealand?!

Whilst I'm here - can anyone confirm the setlist for Splendour In The Grass? There are two wildly different lists around at present.

Japanese tour - November 2011

23rd Nov - Big Cat, Osaka, Japan
24th Nov - Club Quattro, Nagoya, Japan [more info]
25th Nov - Zepp, Tokyo, Japan

The publication of these dates marks a significant milestone for Mogwai. The sum total of the completed and scheduled tour dates for 2011 now surpasses 2006, meaning that 2011 will be Mogwai's heaviest touring year to date. There are likely to be further autumn tour dates announced in the next few weeks.

Not bad for a band 17 years into their career.

Update: this run of dates may also include Mogwai's first-ever show in Bangkok, Thailand. Further details tbc.

iTunes Festival - 23rd July

Mogwai play the iTunes Festival 2011 at London's Roundhouse venue next Saturday (23rd July) with support from Errors.

The ticket competitions for this show appear to have closed now so presumably most/all of the lucky winners have been notified.

The show can be watched live, and for a limited time afterwards, on iPhone or iPad by downloading an app from the Apple store:
http://itunes.apple.com/app/id431168066?mt=8&affId=1884404

Several of the artists who've already performed at the festival have exclusive 'iTunes Live - London 2011' eps available from iTunes.

White Light/Black Rain

Mogwai's musical appearances in TV shows and films are so numerous now that I don't usually bother reporting them unless they're something out of the ordinary. This is a pretty substantial one I've obviously missed when it was released in 2007 - thanks Matt.

I finally got around to watching the very sobering and disturbing documentary White Light Black Rain and was very surprised to hear Mogwai tracks sprinkled throughout. I went to the site to see if you had it listed already, but couldn't find it. Here's a video still of all the songs they used from the credits.

ICASEA benefit for Japan

http://icasea.bandcamp.com/album/benefit-compilation-for-japan

"Benefit Compilation For Japan" is dedicated to the victims and survivors of the March 11th Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, and to those affected by the ongoing nuclear crisis.

All proceeds from the sale of this compilation will be donated to assist in the rebuilding of peoples lives and the recovery of the devastated areas. The proceeds will be split between the Japanese Red Cross Earthquake Relief Fund and the special accounts set up by the regional governments of the affected areas for the acceptance of monetary donations."

Mogwai's contribution is 'Mexican GP edit', which is presumably the same recording mentioned here.
It can be bought as a single track here:

Remember Remember 'The Quickening'

Based in Glasgow, Scotland, Remember Remember return with their second album, The Quickening on 26th September on Rock Action Records.

Recorded in early 2011 at Chem 19 Studios, Scotland against a background of tumultuous global events, The Quickening sees Remember Remember return with the same seven piece group heard on last year’s “RR Scorpii” EP – Graeme J.D. Ronald, Andy Brown, James Swinburne, Joanne Murtagh, Joseph Quimby, Steven Kane and Tommy Stuart – further embellished on the second full length by the nylon string guitar talents of R.M. Hubbert and a full string quartet.

Remember Remember have moved their base of operations into the playroom of a disused primary school in Glasgow’s South Side, and while The Quickening is still a playful, colourful record, a lot of the toys have gone and the music dives deeper into darker, psychedelic territories hinted at on “RR Scorpii”; Pagan waltzes, apocalyptic Egyptian surf and Middle Eastern modes mingle with sombre pianos and bleak string interludes, concluding, however, with a duo of songs – ‘One Happier’ and ‘John Candy’ – both bittersweet and stratospheric , creating an ending made of pure, bright light.

The Quickening is their first album since the 2008 self-titled debut. In the interim, Ronald has helped on various projects at Green Door Studios including one where Glaswegian songwriters teamed up with musicians from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Ronald eventually wrote a piece for string quartet and tuned percussion leading to him contributing string arrangements on Happy Particles’ debut album and ultimately giving him the confidence to include string arrangements on The Quickening. The addition of the string quartet weaves hypnotic musical tapestries, evoking a Pagan Ceremony on ‘Ocean Potion’ or a foggy celtic seascape on ‘Scottish Widows’.

Remember Remember‘s musical journey, which began as one guy on stage with a loopstation and a bag of toys, now finds them here with The Quickening, a powerful and exciting listen that promises live experiences just as thrilling.

Missing setlists

Thanks to the efforts of a considerable number of contributors, the Mogwai gigography holds more info than anyone could possibly need.

But there's always room for more. If anyone attended these shows and can provide or clarify setlist details, please get in touch. Setlist photos are always useful, even if they're part-sideways images of Barry's keyboard list (see here)

2011:
30th June - Fusion Festival, Lärz
19th May - Workplay Theatre, Birmingham AL

2009:
3rd July - Festival Beauregard, Hérouville Saint Clair

2008:
5th September - Sugar, Victoria BC
30th August - Debeschaving Festival, Utrecht
6th August - øya Festival, Oslo
13th July - Ilosaarirock Festival, Joensuu
28th June - Sled Island Festival, Calgary

2007:
23rd June - Hurricane Festival, Scheeßel

As you can see from this list, festival setlists are particularly difficult to find. Any help much appreciated.
Then I'll start REALLY testing your memories with 2006 and earlier.

Mogwai "Earth Division" ep - 12th September

Having thus far enjoyed a monumental year, with a sold out world tour and the release of the superb and critically acclaimed 7th studio album, Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will, Mogwai are ready to embark upon another chapter. The band are set to release their Earth Division EP, which carries four brand new tracks, highlighting a creative departure from the band’s trademark cinematic mantra of pulverizing, scorched guitar riffage, into a more recontextualised domain of hazy electronic distortion, accompanied by spiky wafts of violins, violas, cellos and double bass and jagged keys.

Earth Division discretely demonstrates another side of Mogwai’s stratospheric level of brilliance with its ever-rotating, hypnotic soundtracks that drift dreamy into force, while adsorbing into the paranormal.

Earth Division is a collaboration of barded guitar distortion and haunting piano, which might offer the listener something different, but it still carries the band’s hallmarks.
