Mojo, December 2008

an excellent mogwai feature in the december 2008 edition of
mojo. predictably enough, written by keith cameron. if the guy's not already writing a book on mogwai, he should be.

Stuart on Subcity Radio

From Allan Smith:

Stuart recently appeared on She Said, a show presented by me and a mate on Glasgow Uni's internet based radio station. I think it went pretty well and he brought a fine selection of music along!
The 18th Oct show is on 'listen again' here:
http://www.subcity.org/shows/shesaid/0f384/

Well worth a listen - an exclusive first play of 'Trad' from Part Chimp's recently-completed album 'Thriller', and a track from the (fantastic) forthcoming Remember Remember album (out on 5th November), for starters.

Thanks Allan.

London afterparty - official statement

From mogwai.co.uk:

We were extremely upset to find out the circumstances around our after party in London on Friday night. From what we hear there was a problem with entry to the venue which meant that some people who had bought tickets as well as many of our guests weren't able to get in. Our involvement in the event only extended to playing some records and choosing some of the other djs and performers. We had no hand whatsoever in the organization and promotion of the event. We encourage all those who couldn't get in to get in touch with the promoter Brand New Fiction for refunds with your full name and a copy of your confirmation email. The email address is info@brandnewfiction.co.uk

I've also had a mail today from Brand New Fiction, asking for people to contact them directly.

London show successful, afterparty shambolic

plasticpancake on flickr

Reports on last night's Mogwai show in London are, understandably, very favourable.

The 'Mogwai Presents A Party Under The Arches' afterparty appears to have been a shambles, however - either massively oversold (in which case refunds are due?) or just plain incompetence.

From nme.com:

Asked as to why fans had to queue for so long to enter the aftershow party, Dominic Aitchison added: "That's pretty bad. We're sorry about that. It's not been very well organised, but the band really didn't have much involvement besides helping putting on the DJs."

Tour single

We previously reported that a 2-track tour single was on sale at the US dates in September.

Tracklist:
'Colours Move' (Shibuya Drunk remix by Mogwai)
'Mogwai Fear Satan' (Fuck Buttons cover)

2-track CD single for the US tour, 10" vinyl for the uk shows in October.
Unfortunately the vinyl pressing is not happening. The CD single will be on sale from the merch stand at the UK (and presumably European) dates over the next few weeks, starting tonight in Edinburgh.

Thanks Craig.

UK tour - 10 days

there still seems to be some uncertainty surrounding the forthcoming uk and european shows, following martin's ill-health after the atp-ny show last month.

the shows ARE going ahead, and martin will be drumming.

"Ticket sales for the UK shows have been going great."
thanks stuart.

"Presumptious I may be, but I thought you might be interested in some Mogwai-related posts I added to my blog recently:

is me predicting future Mogwai song titles via vintage Penguin paperbacks

is me redesigning almost the entire Mogwai back-catalogue in the style of Penguin paperbacks

is my original redesign of the 'Friend of the Night' cover.

http://psychskull.wordpress.com/2008/10/04/i-know-you-are-but-what-am-i/

is the first in a series of paintings I'm doing based on Mogwai song titles. More will follow, including 'Like Herod', 'You Don't Know Jesus', and 'Stop Coming To My House'. I'm planning to have completed a dozen by Xmas, with the plan to publish them as a 'book' early in the New Year - though the last part is dependent upon £££. Anyone wanting to buy the originals can do so via the site."
thanks rik. did ep+6 really come out on Tuff Gong?

2009 touring

the previously-reported mogwai show at la laiterie, strasbourg has been moved from 27th jan to 12th feb. thanks markus.

this change of date gives further credibility to the long-standing rumour of an australian tour early next year - after the japanese dates (11th - 14th jan)?

a show at teatro cervantes, malaga, spain (2nd feb) has been widely reported but is not yet confirmed.
update - the malaga show is now confirmed.
