‘Dare To Dream’ Mogwai Remix – Free Bonus Track
Ash have announced details of the next free bonus track for A-Z series subscribers. Those who purchase an A-Z Series digital subscription before midnight on Thursday 8th April 2010 will get a free Mogwai remix of next single in the A-Z Series, ‘Dare to Dream’
The band have also pressed 1000 limited 7” vinyls of the remix and are offering five lucky A-Z Series subscribers the chance to win a signed remix vinyl, all you have to do to be in with a chance of winning is email ashcomps@ash-official.com, title your emails DARE TO DREAM.
For those that don’t win, a limited amount of remix vinyls will be available for A-Z Series subscribers to purchase, while the rest will be available through independent record stores for Record Store Day (17th April) and from the merchandise stand on the UK and European Tour while stocks last!
‘Dare To Dream’ will be released on Monday 12th April as digital download, as part of the A-Z Series digital subscription and on limited edition 7” vinyl.
A link to download the remix will be emailed to all subscribers on Tuesday 13th April.
In this months podcast i’m joined by non-dom tax exile Barry Burns. During the podcast we were having some serious problems working the equipment which brought flashbacks of other Mogwai related technological horror shows such as my pedals giving up during the Oya festival, John’s laptop having a shit fit onstage at Glastonbury and everything stopping working altogether at Coachella.
Thankfully unlike these disasters the good folks at Radio Magnetic were able to fix all our blunders so hopefully it will just seem as if we’re getting in a tizzy about nothing. Hope you enjoy it.

We’re delighted to co-host an evening with Stuart Braithwaite from MOGWAI as part of FLATPACK FESTIVAL on Sat 27th of March. We’ll be starting off with a Q & A followed by a screening of BURNING dir. In the evening I went to Ikon Eastside for Flatpack and Capsule’s screening of Burning, a film of Mogwai’s residency at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. I really enjoyed immersing myself in Burning, it was beautifully shot. Because I’m well hopeless when it comes to music it’s pretty much the first time I’ve sat down and listened to Mogwai, and I liked a lot – definitely a download for all those springtime canalside bike rides I have planned. It also meant I got to see Brumcast’s Little Chris in the flesh and he did a brilliant job of a friendly, relaxed interview with Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite.

Hello. My name is Barry Burns and I'm from Glasgow (though I'm now based in cheaper, colder, weirder but certainly less violent Berlin). I'm a member of the instrumental band Mogwai from Scotland. More precisely I am the piano player and sometimes guitarist. They also even allow me to write songs.
If you haven't heard of us I'm not surprised. If you have heard of us and you like our music for whatever reason then please don't expect my mix to have loads of boring one-chord shimmering guitar "soundscapes".....my band do enough of that already along with about 40+ similar bands so instead here's a load of tunes I like to either dance to with my wife or just listen to before going out to one of those 24-hour pubs that dangerously furnish many street corners of Berlin town.
I do DJ at clubs but not nearly as much as I'd like to. This is probably a combination of the facts that I don't like asking people things and also that I'm not amazing at it.....yet. Give me 15 years and you'll all be asking for me.

It should come as no secret to anyone who reads these updates that we were pretty shocked about the December passing of our friend Jack Rose. While it has been tough around here and actions are no substitute for the man himself, we have been busy curating a download-only tribute "album" to Jack. This compilation is monstrous and insanely full of good material - it's a very fitting tribute to the man. We are currently putting some finishing technical touches on this one as we type this message but the compilation, "Honest Strings: A Tribute To The Life And Work Of Jack Rose," will be up within the next couple of week exclusively from the download portion of the Thrill Jockey site, FINA. We will send out another message on this list as soon as the compilation is available for sale. This compilation will cost $15, an absolute bargain for what you are getting, with 100% of the purchase price will go to Jack's estate. The compilation itself is, get this, six and a half hours long. And so it came to pass the She Said team on Subcity Radio once again strode manfully where others fear to tread with an exclusive Mogwai event this weekend. More precisely, this week's show will feature the delightful presence of Stuart Braithwaite and Martin Bulloch with a guaranteed eclectic mix of tunes and chatter. Expect the low-down on the new live film recently premiered at the Glasgow Film Festival, the bands recording and touring plans for 2010 and inevitably some left-field discussion on facial hair and favourite pets.
Oh and we're not gonna mention football, right!
We're re-releasing something rare on vinyl for record store day
Tickets for the new Mogwai documentary Burning also sold out quickly. A black and white concert film shot over three nights in Brooklyn by Vincent Moon and Nat Le Scouarnec (both in attendance yesterday at the screening), the screening was followed by a special secret live DJ set by band members at Mono.
No sooner had the Gregory’s Girl crowd filed out, warmed by the spirit of classic cinematic nostalgia, then it was time for something completely different, but equally essential, with the premiere of Mogwai’s beautifully-shot black and white concert film Burning. After being “treated” to a selection of some of the worst music videos ever produced, courtesy of Mogwai’s Rock Action label (why is it that great bands are always fans of really dire music?), the muso-filled crowd lapped up the film, which was everything you would expect from the influential Glasgow band: artful, intense, sonically stunning and at points achingly self-indulgent. In person, the band are anything but pretentious though, and frontman Stuart Braithwaite hit the nail on the head in the post-screening Q&A when he said that all that really matters in music is the melody, describing conceptual music as “moribund” (a word I last heard uttered by the immortal Alan Partridge). For me, Burning reinforced the notion that Mogwai’s music works best as a purely aural experience, no matter how well constructed the accompanying images. But the crowd loved it, with sections of people spontaneously applauding throughout the film. Another great success for GFF.
