US tour ticket bundles

Matador Records are offering ticket bundles for Mogwai's forthcoming US tour.

These may be a very good deal, but I can't find any information on Matador's website about what they include. The chance to yell "Don't do it" during the really quiet bit just before they hit the pedals in the middle of Like Herod? A free MYT tattoo? An hour in a jacuzzi with Barry?

Perhaps someone at Matador (or indeed anyone) would be good enough to enlighten me.

update: the bundle includes a ticket and an album. Thanks Stuart. Further info as we get it.

Katrien, live in Chicago 15th October 1997

Last year's 'Mogwai Young Team (Deluxe Edition)' included a live recording of Katrien on the 'Appendix' bonus disc. Whilst it's unquestionably a great version of the track, the recording used was sourced from archive.org and there were a number of issues with the sound quality.

The first in what will hopefully be an occasional series of exclusive free downloads, Brightlight is pleased to be able to offer up the same recording, but this time sourced from the master DAT and dropout-free.

Katrien [mp3, 192k, 8MB]
Recorded by Aadam Jacobs at Lounge Ax, Chicago, 15th October 1997.

Thanks Aadam, Stuart and Stewart.

Mogwai Fear Satan on La Blogotheque

Hopefully the rest of the Reims show was filmed and will surface at some point.

Crippled Black Phoenix album pre-order

The forthcoming Crippled Black Phoenix albums are now available to pre-order from Cargo Records:
http://www.cargorecords.co.uk/artist/2210

Formats:
200 Tons Of Bad Luck - CD Album [INV076CD]
200 Tons Of Bad Luck - Heavy Vinyl LP [INV076LP]
The Ressurectionists & Night Raider - Boxed Set, 2 CDs, 48 page booklet [INV075CD]

It seems that the second of these is the project previously reported as "8 Song Vinyl Album". The tracklist for this is markedly different to that of the "200 Tons Of Bad Luck" CD and includes three tracks not on the other formats.

Tracklist differences between the CDs worth noting - despite previous reports that "The Ressurectionists & Night Raider" would include all the tracks from the "200 Tons Of Bad Luck" CD, the Cargo listings have one track, 'A Real Bronx Cheer', which appears on the "200 Tons Of Bad Luck" CD and not on "The Ressurectionists & Night Raider". This track is possibly included on the "200 Tons Of Bad Luck" LP under the title 'The Ballad of Richard Greyson / A Real Bronx Cheer' (I presume it's the same song?)

To recap then - and I stand to be corrected on this - for the completists amongst us, the only way to ensure hearing all the tracks on these various releases is to order the "200 Tons Of Bad Luck" LP [INV076LP] and "The Ressurectionists & Night Raider" Boxed Set [INV075CD].

To confuse things even further, Cargo are offering a package deal on the two CD releases but not on the Box Set/LP combination which enables the avid listener to hear all the tracks.

Thanks to Markus for the tip-off on the pre-order.

Bloc Party remix download

Mogwai's remix of Bloc Party's 'Biko':

http://rcrdlbl.com/artists/Bloc_Party/track/Biko_Mogwai_Remix

update: as 'data.hypercomplex' comments below, the Mogwai remix seems to have been removed. I downloaded this yesterday and it's a different mix to the Armand Van Helden mix they're currently offering. Wonder how much trouble I'd get into if I re-posted the Mogwai remix....?

Oxegen?

Martin's tweet this morning:
Goodbye Dublin. It's been a very enjoyable/boozy weekend. Thanks to everyone who came to the shows, see you again in the summer.
Implying that Mogwai are playing either Oxegen or Electric Picnic? As the former tends to share much of its line-up with T In The Park, and Mogwai are already confirmed to play T In The Park, Oxegen seems the more likely option.

Dublin 3

Last night's final show in Dublin included the first performance of 'Auto Rock' since 27th April 2006. Also making their first showings since 2006 (12th November) were 'You Don't Know Jesus' and 'Glasgow Megasnake'.

'iambic5' suggests that Mogwai have played a total of 28 different tracks over the three nights in Dublin.

Dublin 4, Celtic Underground 1

Last night's Mogwai show in Dublin included the first performances of 'Killing All The Flies' and 'My Father My King' since 12th November 2006, and the first performances of 'Travel Is Dangerous' and 'Small Chidren In The Background' since 2007.

The Celticunderground Podcast 39
Celtic Underground
This week Eddie Pearson is joined by Dianogah from KDS and Martin, John and Stuart from Mogwai. They attempt to talk over the women at the table next to them and the jazz band that started later on in the night as they discuss the cup final, following Celtic whilst an international rock and roll (or is it pop? And what the heck is Math rock anyway?) superstar and how difficult it is to avoid saying the word "hun" mainly because you don't want to give the tabloids an easy article. If you listen with the headphones on you can hear pint tumblers being placed on the table in wonderful stereo.
Nearly an hour in length, largely football-related and well worth a listen.

A king prawn ring of news

Bloc Party release their second remix album on 11th May. 'Intimacy Remixed' includes a Mogwai mix of 'Biko', courtesy of John Cummings. Other remixers include No Age, Armand Van Helden and Banjo Or Freakout.

Matador Records have reissued a slew of back catalogue titles on vinyl. No Mogwai this time, but they're promising some for the next batch. Wonder if that'll include the reissued 'Come On Die Young' package?

A further show date has been added to the European dates in early June:
3rd June
Grabenhalle
St. Gallen
Switzerland

Mogwai reprise last August's Flaming Lips support slot at 'Pitkä kuuma kesä 2009', Suvilahti, Helsinki, Finland on 28th June.

Crippled Black Phoenix update

On April 20th Invada Records will release the brand new Crippled Black Phoenix album titled "200 Tons Of Bad Luck". As well as the 200 Tons Of Bad Luck album, Crippled Black Phoenix will also release a limited edition 2 CD Box Set version titled "The Ressurectionists & Night Raider" (27th April). This will essentially feature all of the songs from the " 200 Tons" album + a whole load of exclusive bonus material never heard before. The artwork will be different from "200 Tons" and we're hoping to have some images of the Box Set very soon. Please bear in mind this will be a limited format and we're not expecting it to be around for long..

Rock Werchter

Mogwai have been added to the line-up for the Rock Werchter festival in Belgium, playing the Pyramid Marquee on Saturday 4th July. The only other act confirmed for the same stage on the same day is Katy Perry - quite a contrast.

Thanks Gerwin.

Dublin sell out?

It appears that the second of Mogwai's three forthcoming shows in Dublin (Sat 21st March) is already sold out? Any news on ticket sales for the other shows?

Australian press

Some info on Mogwai's future plans appeared when Stuart was interviewed by Australia's 'Beat' magazine recently:

As well as shooting footage for a possible live DVD release of this tour to be released either later this year or early in 2010, Mogwai will at least be beginning to think about album number seven in the near future.

"I think we know we're going to do a new album next year and look to have it out early in the year after," Stuart concludes. "I suppose that's still two years away, but that's the general plan."

Barry's written another tour diary, this time for Mogwai's European dates in January and February. Published by Impress magazine.

Strasbourg broadcast rescheduled

The radio broadcast of Mogwai's recent Strasbourg show (12th Feb) has been rescheduled to 9th March (21:00 - 22:00).

http://www.grafhit.net/index.html

Graf'hit is part of a network of local radio stations named Ferarock (http://www.ferarock.com/). Each of these is able to choose to broadcast the Mogwai set. It's not known at present whether any of them will do so.

Thanks Markus.
