Chemikal Podsketch 7

Always entertaining, the newly-uploaded Chemikal Underground Podsketch (#7) comes with a couple of great stories (Martin Bulloch's attempts at social interaction with Low, and the MC5 playing a gig in a convent) and the very welcome news that Chemikal Underground have signed the immensely talented Adrian Crowley.

If you're new to these podcasts, I'd heartily recommend giving #5 a spin for some great acoustic tracks from Martin Henry of De Rosa (RIP)

Field Day - 1st August

Less than two weeks before Mogwai's only English summer festival show of 2009.

Field Day
Victoria Park,
Hackney London, E9

Saturday 1st August 2009
11.30am - 10.30pm

Mogwai are scheduled for a 90 min headline set.

There's some other folks playing too, amongst them Errors and Malcolm Middleton. Check the Field Day website for a full list.

Reports from Madstock, which took place in Victoria Park last weekend, suggest that the sound and organisation issues which dogged the last two Field Day events should have been sorted.

Get your tickets booked - you KNOW it makes sense. What could be more fun than being down the front after a few beers, singing along to 'Mogwai Fear Satan'? Or pulling some crazy shapes to the dance-tastic '2 Rights Make 1 Wrong'?

If you've contributed to Brightlight in the past, and you're attending this event, please get in touch (unless you've already done so by PM on the forum). And by 'get in touch', I don't mean leave an anonymous comment. There's an email address over there somewhere >>>>>>>>>

Mogwai at T In The Park

The BBC have kindly posted 'Hunted By A Freak' and 'Mogwai Fear Satan' from Sunday's headline set on the King Tuts stage at T In The Park on the BBC website. Watch it here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/tinthepark/2009/artist/mogwai/

'Mogwai Fear Satan' wasn't part of the original broadcast in the early hours of Monday morning, so its inclusion here is very welcome. The video posted on the BBC website is listed as 'Part 1' so hopefully the rest of the set may appear at some point?

Update: Part 2 up now - 'I'm Jim Morrison, I'm Dead' and 'Batcat'

Mogwai on BBC TV tonight

Stuart on Twitter:

We'll be making a rare appearance on BBC TV tonight from T in the Park.
Mogwai play last on the King Tuts stage.

BBC3 has coverage from 8pm - 10pm and from 10.45pm - 12.15am

Update: 'Hunted', 'I know you are', 'You don't know jesus', 'Jim Morrison' and 'Batcat' were TV-broadcast at around 2am on 13th July 2009 as part of BBC3's 'red button' coverage of the festival. Anyone record this? Sadly the broadcast does not appear to be archived on the BBC iplayer.

The One That Didn't Get Away?

Gilles Peterson played a new Arthur Baker white label on his 'Worldwide' show yesterday morning (9th July) - [tracklist]

Credited as Arthur Baker & Pharaoh Sanders- ‘Spirituality’ (White Label), the track apparently includes contributions from 'members of Mogwai' and is most likely drawn from the sessions for Baker's (shelved?) album 'The One That Got Away' in 1999.

Listen again (until 15th July):
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/gillespeterson/
'Spirituality' starts around 43:20

Any further details gratefully received. A copy of the record would be even better!

Further details on Mogwai's work with Arthur Baker can be found here:

Thanks to Jack GG for posting this on the forum.

The campaign to get Mogwai into Rock Band continues - from Stuart:

Can everyone go to this link and say they want a Mogwai song in Rockband please?

Festival Beauregard

Did any Brightlight readers attend Festival Beauregard in Hérouville Saint Clair, France last Friday (3rd July)? Mogwai's setlist, reviews, photos are proving very elusive. By contrast, Youtube has video of every song from Pete Doherty's set from the same night.

New album - 2011

http://www.nu.nl/muziek/2033931/mogwai-neemt-zichzelf-niet-zo-serieus.html tells us, via Babelfish, that Mogwai have reserved the early part of 2010 to work on a new album, and that nothing has yet been written. Apparently a producer and a studio for the album recording sessions have already been chosen, but the producer hasn't been asked yet?! The album is projected for release in 2011.

Any wild guesses on the identity of the producer then? Stuart appears to imply it's someone who will have plenty of time on their hands in 2010 - Gordon Brown? Max Mosley?
